In the right direction

Here’s where we started.
A bleak and dated house.  A dark, galley kitchen closed off to the rest of the living area.
Good-bye tunnel kitchen.
Hello open concept.

Now to the window, the wall.....and the floors.

The day we walked into this house I knew what it could become with the right choices and a little TLC.  It could be the beach cottage we always wanted.  I would close my eyes and envision its potential.

My inspiration.

Ok, snap.  Back to reality.
Temporary as it may be.

The demo was extensive.  Everything had to go.
Yes, that includes the beautiful light fixtures.
plus, the carpet.
the walls.
windows.
cabinets.
all new ventilation system.
buy a new HVAC system and move.
ok let's not get a head of ourselves.
you get the picture.
Well, if you don't...here is a picture.

Next, the concrete was cut to accommodate the electrical and plumbing needed for the new kitchen configuration.

Silver & Gold

Silver & Gold
Silver and gold, silver and gold
Ev'ryone wishes for silver and gold
How do you measure its worth?
Just by the pleasure it gives here on earth.

exposing my bare *** envy

Many of you out there in Blogland may have picked up on my desire to live near the coast.
I dream of outdoor living year round and listening to the
sounds of the sea.

Enter:  the outdoor shower.
(Who doesn't love the idea of ushering in each new day with a little exposure?)

a snail's pace

Hey y'all!  If you like this, then you will love our Beach House Remodel.  Life is good!

Please visit our progress at
House Envy* The Beach House
and let us know what you think.

My obsession with (ahem!) love of all things house and home began roughly 20 years ago while watching the "Father of the Bride".  That house!
Awww! (*sigh*)
Give it to me!  Pleeeaaase!

It wanted to live in that house, on that street, and in that beautiful California town.  It was the main character of the movie, it was the Quan, the Shiznit.....the MacDaddy, if you will.

Ok, you get it.

Voila....perfection!

...oh yeah, and that kitchen.

And then along came another movie....
"Something's Gotta Give".
That house.....THAT KITCHEN!  *swoon*

Time out.
What's that you say?
I'm not the first person to fall in love with that house or THAT KITCHEN??
Yes, Bloglanders, I drank the kool-aid and even tapped the bottom of the cup on that one.  You could even say that I have been around the block a time or two.
Yes, I get it, probably the most recognizable kitchen in Blogland
(ok, I won't even get started on "It's Complicated").
 Doesn't mean I can't LOVE it. *pout*

I have a point and I am getting to it.

The evolution of our kitchen.   Months of blog-stalking and magazine ENVY* inspired me and I decided I could easily complete a simple cabinet painting project.

What I lacked in square footage, I would make up in STYLE!

I began emptying the cabinets in preparation for my weekend project.  I figured I would be completely done and two glasses deep in the vino by the end of day.

Snap!  Reality.

My weekend project of simply painting the cabinets was haulted, flipped on it's a$$, kicked and body slammed when it was decided that simply painting the cabinets and updating the counters would not be the answer.

*Cue EGO crusher.*

(stay tuned)
