stars, stripes and betsy ross

"America is best described by one word-- freedom."
 Dwight D. Eisenhower

I often have dreams of living in a house EXACTLY like this one.
On the Fourth of July, I would gleefully watch the festively decorated bicycles parade by my front porch.

I would be sipping an ice cold {insert favorite summer cocktail}
Ahhhh.......
ok, I'm back.

...or maybe we could gather around on this front porch during the fireworks.
{insert my dog, Maxwell, below or your dog if you want to play along}

Hello beautiful flag.

Well, we can all count our lucky stars (50 of them, in fact) that the red, white and blue color pallette is not exclusively for
Independence Day.

Absolutely beautiful.
Don't you love how the blue of the ocean becomes part of this AWESOME room?

It’s easy being green

Sorry Kermit.

Mr. Kermit the Frog

Using eco-friendly products and recycling items from home is SUPER easy.

**Bonus...it could make your project less expensive.

You may remember during our Kitchen Reveal when I showed how we recycled our kitchen cabinets.

(It's still hard to believe they are the same doors!)

It has inspired me to look around at other ways to be green.

Look at all these great Eco-friendly ideas!

I am loving the bamboo and the skylights.

Recycled tile in a beautiful blue.

Lovely clerestory windows allow this house to be cool without air conditioning.
What's a clerestory window?
Pronounced....CLEAR STORY...
A clerestory is a high wall with a band of narrow windows along the very top. The clerestory wall usually rises above adjoining roofs.

I must have this door!  E-N-V-Y!  Yes, I feel it.  This beautiful door was found in a salvage yard.
*Note to self:  Visit more salvage yards.

a missing mud*room worth pouting about

(*Disclaimer:  This is not really me.)

mud*room(noun)
: a room in a house designed especially for the shedding of dirty or wet footwear and clothing and located typically off the kitchen or in the basement.
Usually found in a blogger's dream house.  Just not in mine.*

a little history and a dream*  I find it difficult to forgive the architect who failed to add a mudroom to my house.  A simple space that separates the inside from the outdoor elements.  A euphoric place of organizational wonderful-ness.
In its place, we have an entryway that longs for a row of lockers with charming metal  hooks and generous shelving.  Shelving that would house dozens of delectable little baskets, rain boots and school bags.

{here is a little look at what could of been}...

Orange you glad we’re talking Aqua

I recently asked my 7 year old daughter the following question:
What color would you like your room to be?
Her response, (wait for it)“ORANGE!”

Oh boy, what have I done!
(insert back-peddling noise)

I told her, “orange is an awesome color!  Is there another color that you like with orange”?
She pointed to our aqua colored handsoap.

Hmmm.
Aqua and Orange.  Ahhh. Gorgeous.

Let's do this!
